To meditate is easier than you think

Meditation is a way to train the brain, like the way that fitness is a way to train the entire body. But a lot of meditation methods exist, so how can you learn how to meditate?

It’s extremely tough for a newcomer to sit and think of nothing or have an empty mind. There are some tools like a beginner meditation DVD or a brain-sensing headband to assist you through this procedure when you’re starting. Generally speaking, the simplest way to start meditating is by focusing on the breath. An illustration of one of the most common approaches to meditation is concentration.

Concentration meditation involves focusing on a single point. This could be focusing on your breathing, repeating one word or mantra, staring at a lit candle, listening to some repetitive song, or counting beads on a mala. Focusing on the mind is challenging, especially for a beginner but a new convert to meditation might meditate for just a few minutes and work up to longer durations.

The idea of mindfulness meditation is to encourage the practitioner to start observing their wandering thoughts as they drift through the brain. The intention isn’t to become involved with the ideas or to judge them, but only to be conscious of each mental note as it sounds.

Through mindfulness meditation, you will soon see how your thoughts and feelings tend to move in particular patterns. As time passes, you can become more aware of the human tendency to quickly judge an experience as good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant. With practice, an inner equilibrium develops.
